the spider who could

I recently discovered a spider who insists on building a web to cover the ENTIRETY of the entryway to my flat at least once a week – my flatmate (of the moment …) has apparently been aware of this for some time. Any guests who’ve stopped by the flat between Thursday and Sunday on any given week are offered the opportunity to approach the door first. This spider never ceases to amaze me, in several ways:

:: How on earth does this spider manage to build a web that large?? (92cm x 244 cm; or 3ft x 8ft)

:: I can only presume the spider does this on a weekly basis rather than a daily basis because it gets tired … but if not, does it get exposure to cocaine or something similar once a week that sends it on a web-spinning tirade? What the hell inspires this thing?

:: Why does it want to build a web over my doorway? Is it hoping to catch me, as is it simply ambitious enough to want prey larger than ants and flies?

Random and silly commentary on a spider, true … but you try coming home late at night, fumbling for keys and the door latch, only to walk full-on into a spiderweb that is twice the size that you are – eish!
