subliminal messaging
Part I: I love making homemade vegan food – my favourite breakfast to make is American-style banana pancakes with berries, nuts, and real maple syrup. That said, I am notorious for dropping by people’s houses early in the morning. Additionally, I am occasionally known for being a tad spontaneous. Just so all of that is clear to begin with …
Part II: Now that I live near an ocean again, I try to go out to the water whenever I can, which oftentimes is in the wee hours of the morning when I have work that day. Hence, this morning around 4.00 AM, I was driving out to the beach near Santa Monica, listening to a Jack Johnson CD and I hit the replay button for the song ‘Banana Pancakes’ once or twice – I love that song, but that fact has nothing to do with the song’s title – apparently, this morning, there was some subliminal messaging going on … or something to that effect.
Part III: Once I was finally out in the water – no good waves to ride today, so I could only go for a swim – I began to think, who do I know that could use a stack of homemade pancakes to start off their day well? (Yes, I have weird moments where I think that people could use some homemade pancakes to start off their day well.)
Part IV: I went home, made loads and loads of banana pancakes. By 8.00 AM, I was driving around my little neighbourhood to place a paper plate of banana pancakes and a paper cup full of strawberries and blueberries on random doorsteps with ‘Have a lovely day!’ scribbled as neatly as possible on the side of each cup of berries.
Part V: I would leave the plate and cup on a doorstep, knock on the door of that particular neighbour, then run and hide. It was fun. There’s this random little Buddhist centre/monastery (welcome to Los Angeles) just down the street, and that was the best experience of this little adventure … the monks were already awake, and they gave me some seeds for my herb garden.
Part VI: I started off my day well with a stack of banana pancakes, not to mention some good karma. YAY for that!
